At San Diego Discus we are concerned about our impact on the environment. All of the electrical power used by our pumps, filters and lights are powered by pure photovoltaic technology. We rely on the sun shining down on our roof top solar arrays to power the entire facility around the clock. We even make enough power to give a little bit back to San Diego! We utilize top of the line, low power consumption circulation pumps and LED lighting to reduce our electrical consumption to it's absolute lowest levels.

Not a single drop of waste water goes down the drain! All of the water we use in our tanks is recycled directly back to the water table. Since we use absolutely  ZERO chemicals in our facility, our waste is a completely reusable product. The waste water we produce in our facility is removed from the livestock tanks and pumped in to large holding tanks. That water passes through 200 micron filters and is used on the premises for irrigation. We feel that using our water twice is environmentally and economically sound.

ABSOLUTELY ZERO CHEMICALS. Our methods of fresh water filtering allow our discus to bathe in fresh, clean, chemical free water. We don't even use water conditioner. All of our incoming water is 1 micron sediment filtered followed by triple extruded carbon block filtration. Once we've removed the sediment and chlorine, we allow our fresh water to age for approximately 24 hours in our holding tanks to allow gas concentrations to stabilize. Once a month we take water parameter readings to detect any source changes. It's simple, it's Eco-friendly and our discus absolutely love it!
